Hudson Valley Farmers are some of the most tenacious, faithful and dedicated folks on the face of the earth. Leonard Clarke was a shining example of these characteristics.
He carried with him a boldness and integrity that is not often found these days. Leonard left us this past Monday, January 14, 2019. I will miss him.
I could ‘drop in’ and be met with enthusiasm, a genuine smile and stories dating back to his childhood…I will miss his persistence in stating the questions and passion in knowing the answers, in hammering out the problems, his passion for testing new ways, his thinking outside of the box. I will likely miss most his persistent challenges to me, as a tree fruit researcher, to find the answer to his question.
I will miss experiencing his great love of his family, expressed in stories, bantering and challenging moments, that clearly state that he cares. And I have ofter thought of his enduring love of his life long companion that will continue to challenge me in relationships.
He always had a smile, a question, a story during our times together. I can say with confidence that Leonard Clarke was blessed, lived a life of fullness, and was a blessing to those that knew him.
Leonard, I will miss you. Thank you for your faithful life and many years of friendship.
